Let’s Talk About the Fluids in Your European Automobile

If your European automobile is leaking fluid, it’s important to know which one it is so you can determine whether you should continue to drive your car, crossover, or SUV. Some leaking fluids can make driving your Beemer or Benz dangerous. Star Motors European lists the automotive fluids found in your European automobile below by their color so you can identify them.

Blue

The blue fluid leaking out of your Audi is most likely windshield washer fluid. It could be antifreeze or coolant, but blue antifreeze or coolant is rare. You can drive your automobile if it is leaking windshield wash. It won’t hurt it.

Brown

Don’t put your Porsche’s pedal to the metal if it is leaking brown fluid. This could be brake fluid or motor oil. It can also be differential fluid or transmission fluid that is old and needs to be changed. Driving is unsafe with low levels of any of these fluids.

Green

You shouldn’t drive your Jaguar if it is leaking green fluid. This is antifreeze/coolant and low levels can cause the engine to overheat. If the engine gets too hot, you could be looking at a cracked engine block.

Orange

If you see orange fluid on your garage floor, it could be coolant that is filled with rust particles. In this case, the bottom of your radiator has a hole in it caused by corrosion eating through it.

Pink

Never drive any European automobile if you see pink fluid that looks like a strawberry milkshake. This is a mixture of coolant and transmission fluid as well as a sign of serious transmission or engine damage.

Red

Driving your vehicle with a red fluid leak also puts you in danger. Both transmission and power steering fluid are red. Engine coolant can also be red, as can brake fluid.

Transparent

Transparent fluid is water unless it smells like fuel. If it does smell like fuel, don’t drive your Volkswagen because it is leaking fuel. If it has no odor, it is natural condensation, and you don’t need to worry about that.

Yellow

Finally, yellow fluid is probably antifreeze/coolant. Keep in mind, however, that light yellow fluid can also be brake fluid that is new. If your vehicle is leaking brake fluid, you won’t be able to stop it when you need to.

Star Motors European in San Juan Capistrano, CA, will find which fluid is leaking out of your European automobile and from where. We can fix the leak and get you back on the road quickly.
